Based on Scherer's Component Process Model, the Geneva Emotion Research Group has developed this new instrument to obtain self-report of felt emotions elicited by events or objects.
The Geneva Emotion Wheel (GEW) is a theoretically derived and empirically tested instrument to measure emotional reactions to objects, events, and situations.
Another unique feature of the Geneva Ferris Wheel is the emotionless space in the center. This is useful for expressing emotional numbness or emotions not shown elsewhere on the wheel.
This concept is very simple. We have a circle with 20 different emotions.
The circle has to main axes, that divide the feelings. First of is axis of High/Low Control of emotions and the second axis is Pleasant/Unpleasant axis.
Each of the feelings has 5 different degrees and there are also two extra options offered. They are “No emotion felt” and “Other emotion felt”. It is important to say, that the emotions offered on the circle represent family of emotions and not one single emotion, therefore these emotions should be understand very carefully and not that much strictly.
The Feelings Wheel (slightly different from the emotional wheel) is said to be originally designed by Gloria Willcox and adapted by Australian pastor Geoffrey Roberts, among many others. It is not as complex as Plutchik’s model,
there are three circles contained within and arranged by the following:
Various primary emotions
Secondary emotions
Tertiary emotions
In Roberts’ feelings wheel, there are seven primary emotions:
Bad
Sad
Happy
Disgusted
Fearful
Surprised
It offer a total of 130 emotions, and has been designed with a focus on negative emotions in order to help you recognize them and take back your power.
